|Michelle Forbes (Admiral Helena Cain)|
Actor Name: Michelle Forbes
Character Name: Admiral Helena Cain
Character Bio: Admiral Cain makes her first appearance in Battlestar Galactica (2003) when, similarly to the events of the vintage TV series, Viper pilots from the two battlestars cross paths in space. A joyous reunion ensues, but is short-lived when a clash between pilots from the two ships over Cain's treatment of a captured Six series Cylon (Gina) results in the death of a Pegasus officer (Lt. Thorne). Cmdr. Adama and Adm. Cain must engage in a battle of wits, a power play for authority, and in fact a struggle for their very lives as they face off over disagreements in ambition and command style.
As Adama and Roslin learn more of Cain's extremist, power-hungry actions, including the stripping of civilian ships for parts, and the execution of non-compliant civilian personnel, they realize that there is only one solution. Strangely enough, the Admiral concocts a simlar assassination plot against her counterpart on Galactica, but for very different reasons. The arrival of the Cylon Resurrection Ship is all that prevents the conflict from coming to fruition as the two leaders must join forces to destroy it. The two battlestars are successful, but their leaders' quarrel is never resolved, as Admiral Cain is executed by the escaped Cylon Gina. Adama is promoted to Admiral and assumes Cain's post, only from the Galactica's CIC.
Actress Bio: Michelle Renee Forbes Guajardo (nickname Mishka) was born in Austin, Texas on January 8, 1965. She relocated to New York at age 16 to pursue an acting career. In her early 20's, she appeared first as a guest star in Star Trek: The Next Generation in the episode "Half a Life". Later, in the fifth season of the show (1987), Forbes would return in a recurring role as what would become one of her most popular roles, that of Ensign Ro Laren, of Bajor. She was asked to reprise this role in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and in Star Trek: Voyager, but rejected both offers, because she felt it would limit the variety of roles she'd be offered in the future. Forbes also saw success on the soap opera circuit, playing a dual villainess role as Sonni / Solita on The Guiding Light. This endeavor earned her a daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Villainess.
In the mid-`90s, Forbes joined the cast of Homicide: Life in the Streets, where she remained until 1998. She also had a recurring role in The District around this time. She filmed a number of episodes of 24 until the end of the second season, where her character experiences a neurological breakdown that was never resolved on the show.
Forbes remains active in television, appearing in numerous series in recent years, including Holby City, Prison Break, Boston Legal and Waking the Dead. She has also provided her voice talents for the new Half Life 2 video game, in Episodes 1 and 2.
