Actor Name: Tahmoh Penikett
Character Name: Capt. Karl C. "Helo" Agathon
Episode Appearances: Main Cast on Mini-Series, Season 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Character Bio: At the time of the Cylon Attack on the Twelve Colonies Lt. Karl "Helo" Agathon is on patrol with Lt. Sharon "Boomer" Valerii in their raptor, which is shot down by the Cylons. Doing emergency repairs they're mobbed by civilians that want to get of the planet. Helo gives up his seat to Dr. Gaius Baltar, because he believes he's valuable to mankind in their fight against the Cylons. Marooned on the planet he meets up with Sharon again, unaware she's just another copy of the Cylon #8 model.
They fall in love, but then Helo meets up with yet another version of the Cylon #8 model who explains things. Disgusted by his love for a Cylon, he leaves her. When they meet up again, Sharon says she's pregnant and Helo's mixed feelings stop him from killing her on the spot. He even saves her from Starbuck trying to do the same when they run into her while she's looking for the arrow of Apollo.
Back on Galactica Helo isn't welcomed with joy, since another copy of Sharon just shot Commander Adama. When Sharon returns to Galactica Helo has to deal with Tyrol who also was in love with Sharon (but this copy was killed by Cally). Helo and Tyrol accidentally kill an officer that tries to rape Sharon in prison and are placed under arrest. When Admiral Cain dies all charges are dropped and both are free to go again.
Helo pulls his gun when they try to abort Sharon's baby by order of the president, but is saved by Baltar who says the fetus is of medical importance. The Cylon-human hybrid baby Hera is born but is switched at birth and Helo and Sharon are led to believe the baby died. During the settlement on New Caprica Helo and Sharon stay aboard the Galactica. They marry and Helo is now XO, since even though Col. Tigh has returned, he's still relieved of active duty.
When the officers of the Galactica consider using the Cylon virus as an agent for genocide, Helo kills the Cylon prisoners before they can be downloaded into a Resurrection ship to spread the virus. Adama believes Helo is the culprit but decides not to take any action against him. Carl's actions, however, become suspect.
Helo returns to flight duty, piloting a Raptor to replenish the fleet's food stores. While on the algae planet, another model of Cylon #8 tell him and Athena that their daughter Hera is still alive. When Adama confirms this information, Athena decides to get her daughter back. She begs Helo to kill her, and he grants her wish. Athena returns with the baby.
Eventually Helo is assigned to take charge of civilians who have been transferred to Galactica's starboard hangar pod. His contact with Sagittaron woman Mrs. King leads him to suspect that Doctor Robert is killing Sagittarons rather than curing them of Mellorack infection. But he's the only one who believes this and telling his superiors only brings him derision and anger. When he learns that Dr. Robert is treating his friend Dee Dualla, also a Sagittaron, he tries to save her and confronts Dr. Robert. A struggle ensues. Colonel Tigh and Dr. Cottle arrive to confirm Helo's suspicions and to arrest Dr. Robert. In a private meeting with Adama, Adama apologizes for discounting Helo's words and Helo reveals his role in the killing of the Cylon prisoners.
